I ordered the build kit for the MX, six-column corne, with a 3D-printed case, JWICK tactile switches, EZ-solder sockets, and tenting feet (the rest of the build was standard: battery, nice!nano, etc.). I ordered the keycaps from elsewhere to get a particular look that was not offered by Typeractive.
My entire experience was fantastic. I came into this project with no soldering experience whatsoever, but the process was manageable. The build guide is clear and comprehensive. The tactile switches are great—I came from a tactile 70% mechanical keyboard (Gateron browns) and was looking for a similar typing experience. The JWICK switches are in my opinion even better than the Gateron browns, and are easy to depress while still providing noticeable feedback. The combination of switches, plate, case, and keycaps provides a satisfying “thock”—or perhaps somewhere between a “thock” and a “clack”: a “thack.” The 3D-printed case has an alluring “midnight blue” color, and while not exactly premium, does a fine job protecting and beautifying the board at a very reasonable price. The build has a nice heft to it.
I ran into a couple issues setting up the board initially, so I reached out on the Discord server. The community is incredibly helpful and responsive.
The only thing I would hesitate to recommend are the tenting feet. They are reasonably well-built in and of themselves and their operation is pretty easy and intuitive, but they are hard to affix to the case: the case screws cut off a lot of options for positioning the feet; if the feet are slightly misaligned, the board will rock; and the feet are very difficult to remove or reposition once installed. I don’t know if there is a better option out there, but if not, I would recommend updating the docs with advice on optimal tenting feet installation.
I’ll also mention that the reset button on the left side was broken soon after I received the board (I don’t know whether this was a manufacturing defect, occurred in transit, or was due to my own handling of the unit). This was a minor annoyance, which the good people at Typeractive quickly helped me overcome. Instead of using the reset button, I have to manually reset the board by shorting two of the controller pins, which is why I haven’t installed the left screen cover.
On the whole, a fantastic product and service, which I highly recommend.
